These are the principles that have guided me through many years of making music.
So, if you think you can’t sing, but would like to try, come along and meet a bunch of fellows, whose enthusiasm shows how easy it all is. And we have a lot of fun along the way.
There are no voice tests – we just sing for enjoyment – and we call ourselves The Gentlemen Songsters. A friendly, light-hearted group of 15 to 20 men, who sing some songs we all know and learn some that we don’t know. Ranging through Sea Shanties, Drinking Songs, Work Songs, Spirituals, Barber Shop and Folk, we sing anything we think we shall enjoy. And I drop in a little musical theory when it is needed to help the general understanding of the music.
Age is not an issue. We welcome anyone who wants to try singing. Just come along to a few sessions to see if you like it. You can come along and just listen to us, or dip your toe in the water and sing along with us. No commitment. Join this group that just has fun with music. Contact me, John Dear, I’ll be delighted to hear from you. Oh yes – and you must be a man!
