In our group we like to get out into our wonderful Wealden countryside and spend a day on some longer walks (around 6 – 10 miles). If you’d like to join us for some fresh air, great scenery and good company, you would be made most welcome. Individual walks are lead by group members on an ad hoc basis. Please call or email Sue (07867 913857) or Anne if you plan to join any walk.
Our next long walk is on Thursday 8 October when I think sadly we will have to walk in two groups (no larger than 6). Lets hope that there will not be any further restrictions to curtail us.
September walk - 10 people — 11 miles and covidly spaced. Penshurst to Hever. August walk — 11 miles from Pluckley to Edgerton with a diversion to Mundy Bois. July walk - Our first walk since the lockdown from Robertsbridge to Bodiam. 9 miles. April, May & June walks - cancelled due to Covid19. March walk - We walked from Cooden to Hastings and back — 12 and one half miles. February walk— About 7 miles from Frittenden to Sissinghurst - in the mud! January walk - About 9 miles. We started at Rolvenden through to Benenden and back to Rolvenden. The only incident was a little unpleasant encounter with a pheasant shooting party who pronounced threats of us staying on the footpath lest we get shot! Our yearly walkers lunch when we joined up with the ‘short walkers’ for a 5 mile walk around Westfield starting and finishing at the New Inn. December walk - Mayfield to Rotherfield and back — approximately 9 miles. November walk - 11 miles from Linton, along the valley to Yalding and then a climb up to the Green Sand Ridge. We stopped in Yalding in a really friendly cafe. October walk - From Teston Bridge to Yalding and return with coffee on Teapot Island - a total distance of just over 10 miles. September Walk - from Penshurst to Mark Beech and return just over 9 miles. August Walk - 9 miles from Robertsbridge cricket ground passed Robertsbridge Abbey along the river towards Bodiam castle and then walked up to the ‘Hub' for refreshments and then headed back across the countryside towards Robertsbridge passed the old mill. July walk - Clockwise round Bewl Water in ideal weather with a stop for coffee. June walk - From Crowhurst in a big circle to Battle and then back to Crowhurst — about 11 miles - stopping for a picnic and coffee. May walk - We covered around 10 miles. From Cranbrook we followed the High Weald Landscape Trail to Goudhurst. After coffee we headed north, then turned towards the south-east, going through Old Park Wood before re-entering Cranbrook. April Walk - We met at Horsmonden green, and set out on a circular walk to Goudhurst and back, around 10 miles. March Walk - Many signs of spring though as we walked through the countryside from Burwash common going West and South before returning to our starting point after 9 and half miles. February Walk - From the 13th century church in Mountfield, across the countryside to Robertsbridge and then back within sight of Darwell reservoir to Mountfield - 8 miles in total.
